While booting up the old web browser, it defaulted to a list of 3 interesting articles one of which was about hangovers.

While I have always known of these facts, I wish to add just a little more than some scientific study and put my facts as more of the cause for a hangover than just your brain shriveling into some prune.

Beer, Wine, Vodka, Whiskey, Burbon- which is the better and safer drink for you body?

Many will say Beer or Wine as they have less alcohol! But I say you are wrong!!!!!

The fact is all alcohol starts out being made in the same way. I know because I use to make all 3.
Water, Sugar, Brewers Yeast, and either some fruit, vegetable, or plant (hoops) for flavor.

That is it (so to speak) and from that you can make any of the above and MORE!
More is a special word here and I will get to More in a minute.

Beer and Wine are probably your worst choices among the alcohol group as they are the most IMPURE! Let me explain by telling you about making whiskey or vodka!

Any distiller, or back woods moonshiner knows that you pour off the first portion of whiskey as it is not whiskey nor alcohol.
The first thing(s) out of the still are:
1…Acetone or you may know this as finger nail polish remover.
2- and about 4 different type of alcohol, methyl, Ethel, Isopropyl….etc.

I will not focus on which order or anything else, but lets think about the cheapest vodka you can buy. You open it up and the first thing you do is smell it and you will catch the faint smell of acetone. Very bad for you and the reason so many alcoholics boozing it up on cheap booze are in the shape they are in.

when you put the heat to almost any liquid, the evaporation process speeds up and forms a gas or fume.
when you apply cold to almost any gas/fume, it will start to condensate or form a liquid. (Most common gasses or fumes).

Since there is water in the mix, and water boils at a much higher temp than Acetone or All the Alcohols 212 degrees. water is the least or last to evaporate. and the trick is to heat the liquid to boiling points as to remove the acetone and alcohols before the water starts steaming off. all will occur at the same time, but some boil off faster as they have a lower boiling temp.

Acetone and alcohols are highly evaporative and when heat is applied gradually, at about 150 degrees they start coming off (boiling out of the water) in the form of steam/fumes. Cooling these fumes back down quickly will cause them to form a liquid form of whatever type fume it is.
As the temperature rises though, each type of "fume;acetone, 4 alcohols" evaporate off faster than the water, as each have boiling points lower than water (beween 150 and 212 degrees) eg. 150 acetone, 170 alcohol 1, 180 alcohol 2, 190 alcohol 3, up to 212 for the fourth alcohol as anything above that, then water will start boiling and evaporating off with all 5 of the above. The above temps are just inaccurate examples of temps.

But lets look at what we just did, we purified different types of chemicals using heat so to speak. In evaporation, there is no way to get 100% purity of any ONE in the above. This is because all will be evaporating as soon as the heat starts rising. but luckly the most evaporative chemical "acetone" will start comming off first in a higher volume of gasses. But some alcohols will come off with it as well.

The bottom line is……
We could make vodka or whiskey from beer or wine as we are simply boiling off the alcohol and acetones from those liquids. Thus purifying them to a higher degree, purifying by removing the acetone and unwanted alcohols, while attempting to catch the dirinkable alcohol.

When drinking beer or wine, you are getting a higher dose of the unwanted chemicals mentioned above. It may be small in quantyty, but its still a higher content than in vodka or whiskey. Surely that adds to the hangover.

So the next time you suck down a cold one, or have that all so romantic wine.. your getting about a quarter teaspoon of acetone and about 3/4 teaspoons of Wood, Industrial, Isopropyl alcohol in the glass as well. enjoy that hangover.

correction: In my second to last paragraph.

Cheap vodka and whiskeys will have a higher level of acetone and other alcohols Per ounce as you can smell and taste them. Its the first thing that comes off (acetone) and its more concentrated than beer or wine in that prospective.

But a good brand vodka or whiskey will have less impurities in them as reputable distillers pay attention to the process and know about the impurities, so they double distill (reprocess the whiskey) as to evaporate off the liquors from the unwanted impurities. Thus you get a better quality whiskey or vodka.

The point being Beer and Wine are never distilled to remove the Impurities, so you drink that along with the wanted alcohol. Wine is around 11% and beer is around 3.0% to 6% alcohol.
Distilled whiskey/vodka comes out at around 80% – 98% pure, then cut/diluted with water to get it down to the leagle level of 40% so they can sell it. And I believe hangovers are due more to an overdose of the impurities and unwanted chemicals in (body) found the cheaper alcohols. beer wine, and dirt cheap liquors.
