Love Work Family Friends Games Kids Life

This is just my thoughts after my miscarriage. I don’t really need or want comments; I’m just putting it out there like a message in a bottle. I think of the song “It is well (with my soul)” For those who don’t know, Horatio Spafford, the author, lost all of his wealth in the Chicago fire of 1871 and the economic downturn of 1873. He planned to go to Europe that year with his family, but at the last minute, changed his plans and sent his family on ahead. The boat they were on was hit by another vessel and all four of his daughters died. As he travelled to meat his grieving wife, passing by the region where the collision occurred, he wrote the words to this song. Many have been touched by the lyrics; so, too, have I throughout my life. This is just one of those instances that I think of this song and remember what my Faith is all about

My take on “It is Well” in reflection of my loss.

Oh the joy of my secret kept,
the future holds so many promises!
I’ll kiss your cheek,
cradle you close;
my unspoken prayer answered.

The heartache takes over,
my fears come to life.
That future is gone like a thief in the night.
How will I ever find my way out,
out of this darkness?

Then I remember the writer,
his life filled with grief,
wrote these words and they spoke to me:
“when sorrows like sea billows roll…”

Then “peace like a river” flooded my soul,
and I remember my God is greatest of all.
I still have a future and so do you.
Mine is here, on this earth,
yours is with Him, in His precious arms,
and together we will glorify our King.

So yes, I grieve,
but I can still rejoice
because Grace has taught me,
as the writer said,
“It is well with my soul,”
because of “this glorious thought…
My sin, not in part, but the whole
is nailed to the cross and I bear it no more.”
So together my precious one, let us praise the Lord!
