It definitely doesn’t make you look racist stereotyping “Indian” people. Yes, it’s still racist even if the connotation is “positive.” It’s the same thing as being surprised an Asian person isn’t “smart.” And I think it’s safe to say, this person you are talking about probably has nothing to do with the country of India? Yeah you’re not racist, good defense Sasha
My names not Sasha. Are you angry? If we are talking about Asians it is true that a majority of Asians are highly intelligent, that’s why some of the most prestigious universities have Asian students as their top students. If we were to no longer use the term Asian when categorizing a person would that be due to culture, DNA, ethnicity or other unknown factors? You definitely look racist for taking my comment racist when I was nearly examining India as a peaceful country and not speaking about an individual, Beth.
It sounds like you said you have a preconceived notion that this Indian person would be peaceful. You’re surprised they aren’t fitting your idea of peaceful. You stereotyped them regardless. Yes, a lot of Asian students do well at universities. Yes, a lot of Native American and Indian people are peaceful. If I meet an older Japanese man at a grocery and he is having trouble ringing up his fruit in the self check out, I’m not going to be surprised and say Oh wow this man isn’t smart. I’m just going to acknowledge that he is having trouble and potentially ask if he could use help without thinking about his race as a factor. It sounds like you upset someone who is Indian and their reaction is bringing out stereotypes you hold within you. This is just how I view the situation.

When I read do I understand what I’m reading?
Ask yourself this.
Are they using words like most, always, some?
