You took away everything that made me, me. You swapped my hair for some yarn, told me i didn’t have to earn anything anymore. That you’d take care of me and I wouldn’t have to worry. Said one day I’d be the one you’d marry. You replaced my skin with porcelain, so fragile I might break, but I’m stronger than that for goodness sake. There’s a smile drawn on my face and a heart that was misplaced. A small nose and glued on toes. A dress that doesn’t fit quite right, but I can’t fix it because I’m stuck in the position you put me in. I stand tall and still on the shelf, was taught not to believe in myself. A priceless collectible put behind plastic. All I am in your eyes is basic. All you see is the me you want me to be, a hollowed out doll made just for you. But could it be that somewhere inside there’s still a piece of me? That thought is shattered as I watch you play with your other dolls, the “pretty” ones. I cry behind these glass eyes, am I perfect now? Now that I’m covered in your lies?
