I just found out my landlady is dead. It’s quite a shock and I am still trying to let it sink. I am not familiar with her but at least she is not a bad landlady. She lived in another country. Sometimes she sent people to fix things in the house, other times she didn’t but at least she did not increase the rent. Sometimes she emailed me and asked me to check her posts. I don’t know… I mean. She’s DEAD now. And I just found out because it’s time to renew my tenancy agreement, on the contract prepared by the property agent, the name of the landlady is followed by the word “deceased”. Emotional sentiments aside, I am not sure if I can enter into an agreement with someone deceased, I mean, is this legal? I have no problem with the rent and the period of tenancy but I am a little bit worried if it is alright to enter into agreement with someone dead (although represented by an agent). And more worried about maybe her husband or heir might sell the house soon… I don’t know what to do…
