A period of mourning after a loss, especially after the death of a loved one.

The seven stages of grief include shock, denial, anger, bargaining, depression, testing, and acceptance.

The grieving process ends once an individual is able to go about their days with increased acceptance of their loss and an ability to experience positive emotions.

I often go numb when dealing with feelings of loss than years later it hits me like a train. I then sorting out my emotions. Moving through the experience and slowly acknowledging its impact, the initial denial and disbelief fades.
