Love Work Family Friends Games Kids Life

Throughout last year and this year, I’ve had an extremely hard time finding a job. I am 17 years old and have been looking for a job ever since I was 15. Not a typical babysitting job or some house work job. I’m talking about working in the field type job like cashier, store associate: something. But every time I apply to either one, no one calls, no one emails, nothing. But why? I literally am fed up with jobs today. Why are so many jobs just looking for experienced workers? Why can’t they train us teenagers to do that job so we can gain work experience so we can go on in life with some sort of experience in hand?

Like I said, I am a teenager and still have my whole life ahead of me. But some of teenagers go through life a bit rough. For example, I live in a house with my grandparents and mom. Mom doesn’t work, she babysits my baby cousins for just $100 and that’s nothing in todays economy. You can only do so little. My grandparents…retired, getting their retirement checks and living their remaining days paying bills and so on. However, sometimes life hits us. Maybe there isn’t enough money to buy food, clothes, or just stuff to spice up the house. “Bills are always a priority,” my grandma says. I agree. But, hunger can make you think other wise. When I faced those hard days, I realized I needed to do something, I want to help with bills, getting food for my family, and want to buy stuff for myself cause I don’t want to bother my mom for money that she barely has. But for the hundreds of jobs I applied to…none responded. I have no prior work experience. In my head, I thought they would be like, “Okay, he has no work experience but we can train him for this simple job.” I was wrong. They just left me hanging.

In my opinion, some jobs can just fall of the face of the earth. Who needs experience washing dishes or cleaning tables? Who needs so much experience being a host/hostess who’s job is to greet people and find tables for them to sit? Simple jobs that teens could do, employers look over. That’s where I am fed up. I don’t mean to sound rude or anything but in some places I’ve seen like Publix or Wal-Mart, they have people who can barely speak, use their hands, or do anything of that matter: basically physical or mental disabilities. But they do their job and I applaud them. But, why can’t we do those jobs? What do we need to do in order for us to get those jobs? Do we need to beg for ’em? Do we need a disability to get in? Like really, some jobs just needs to let the teenagers in, let them work, and let them gain experience so that they can move on to another job or their dream job with experience. What’s so hard about that employers of America? Let us in! Let us work! We are more than capable to do these things.
