Posted by Anonymous on 2012/11/23 under Friends I’ve been friends with my best friend for 5 years now, and things have changed, she’s changed. I know that things never stay the same but she’s turned into a different person. She’s depressed and she cuts but I have no idea why. I’m not the best at talking about personal things so I haven’t really asked her about it face to face but I have hinted and tried to get an answer off her on ask.fm. She’s still my best friend and she always will be but I just don’t know if I like this change.
I’m sure she doesn’t like it either. Maybe instead of being so judgmental about it and talked to her you’d understand.
I used to be just like you – I could not comprehend how or why people could cut themselves. Being depressed really changes the way you think and see the world. Unfortunately, I now personally understand that. You’ve been friends for so long. It might be uncomfortable, but talk to her face to face; ask her how are things going. Chances are that she might deflect, but you need to let her know that you are there for her, let her know that she isn’t alone. You might become frustrated along the way, but it takes time to build trust and I’m sure you’ll become better friends if you just open up more about your concerns for her.
