I never knew how peaceful and relaxing sitting on a window sill with your legs hanging out can be. The fact that I’m two stories high and can easily die is lost deep in my thoughts that soon vanish as the smell of rain and hints of smoke reach my nose. I inhale deeply, allowing the oddly calming scents to further relax me. The quick swooshes of the cars passing by do not ruin the peaceful silence, but somehow add to it. It is quite interesting that the same action of me enjoying a moment with my thoughts cannot be merely as satisfying in the day. I wonder why, but then I realize I’m never alone during the day. Wether it is loud neighbors, a grass mower or family, the silence is ruined. Only late at night, when a blanket of drowsiness covers the city, is when I can enjoy a moment of peace. It is oddly comforting how a small amount of cars and people I hear late at night add to a sense of community as I realize I am not the only one enjoying such a cool and fresh night.
Nights like these are what we should live for. When you find a sense of peace in this cruel world is when you know you have won, maybe only for a moment, but it is still an accomplishment. As my thoughts drift along with the soft humming of an unknown machine working in the distance I stare down into the darkness below me. I realize now how amazing life truly is. I wish this comforting coolness would always be present along with the peaceful silence, but life is sadly full of disturbances. Sometimes I feel sad thinking about that, but really how would life be if we received what we craved for? Bland. Boring.
The fact is simple. We never stop craving. Once we receive what we want, a new craving presents itself.
Humans, such interesting creatures we are. Nothing is good enough, but maybe that is the beauty of life.

Very well written. I can imagine the enjoyable moment of quiet. Sometimes I open my bedroom window at night just to feel the same silence and freshness too. The best part is the stars and (sometimes) the moon. They are so bright and comforting, whatever happens, they are still there though sometimes they may be covered by the clouds. Only nature can calm people down.
